Android : what is this ?
Android is an Operating System (OS) oriented smartphone and tablet. This OS is even installed on radio or appliances (washer ...)
Android is fully based on a Linux Kernel so, it is free and open-source. The particularity of this OS is that it's developed in JAVA.
It's a "strange" choice beacause Java is quite slow because it is compiled at run-time by the system's virtual machine.
However, Java is increasingly used and it is one of the easiest languages to learn.
Android integrates the entire Google eco-system, like Gmail, Youtube, Maps, Agenda, Drive ...
Finally, Android, by Google, has an Applications store, called Play Store.
Main concurrents are Apple with iOS, Microsoft with Windows Phone 8 and Blackberry with Blackberry 10.
